the role and duties of the deacons in the church

The role of a Deacon encompasses a variety of different duties. In general, Deacons function as servants, ministering to the body and taking care of the church in practical ways. A few ways they may serve is by assisting as ushers/greeters, tending to benevolence, serving communion in church and to the homebound, assisting with organizational or administrative tasks/projects and even helping with building maintenance. Every Deacon brings to the table their own unique gift and skill and when combined with others, creates a strong group of servants able to handle a multitude of tasks. No matter how they serve, Scripture makes it clear that ministering as a Deacon is a rewarding and honorable calling in the church (1 Timothy 3:13).
